The inspiration
The Owambe Collective
Growing up in London within a Nigerian household, Grace was immersed in West African culture and tradition from an early age. She fell in love with the patterns and embroidered fabrics of the aso ebi worn at owambes — the build-up of excitement that came from having your outfit made, the buzz of the actual event. The impressive array of attire on display. Creative flair and originality fused with traditional style and contemporary influence.
That deep-rooted fascination led to the creation of the By Grace Ambrose Owambe Collection — an attempt to encapsulate the joyous feeling that accompanies marking a milestone or special occasion, in West African style, with all the trimmings.
The collection incorporates the aso ebi concept with weaving techniques taken from West African basket making. It allows you to mark the occasion — choosing your Owambe frame (Luxe, Bella or Chic) and ribbon, woven together to create your own bespoke set of earrings. Statement pieces that complement your look and have you effortlessly styled.
